How do you tell the difference between partial and complete airway obstruction?
Partial Airway obstruction
•Difficulty breathing
•Wheezing or noisy breathing
coughing
Complete Airway Obstruction
•Inability to breathe cant speak
•Clutching the throat
•Altered conscious state and loss of consciousness
what is the management of choking?
- Encourage the casualty to cough
- DO NOT slap the casualty on the back
- Use gravity where possible, loosen the casualty’s clothing where required
what is Athsma?
Asthma is the narrowing of the airways due to spasm and swelling of the airway walls, making breathing difficult.
what is the treatment?
1 puff, 4 breaths x 4
what are the triggers?
- exercise
- chest infections
- smoke
- weather including changes in temperature and humidity
what are allergic reactions?
An allergic reaction is when the immune system overreacts to something in the environment that normally does not bother someone.
People can have an allergic reaction to medications, stings, dust mites, pollens, pets, and food
what are the Signs and Symptoms of allergic reations?
- Tingling of the mouth
- Swelling of the lips, eyes, and face
- Hives, body rash, and itching
- Vomiting and abdominal pain
what are Anaphylaxis Signs and symptoms?
Difficult or noisy breathing
•Swelling of the tongue•Swelling or tightness in the throat
•Wheezing or a persistent cough
•Difficulty talking and/or a hoarse voice
•Persistent dizziness or collapse
•Pale and floppy
how do you use an epi pen?
- Pull off the blue safety release
- Place the orange end against the outer mid thigh and push firmly into thigh so it ”clicks”. Hold in place for 3 seconds
what are Angina Heart Attack Signs & Symptoms?
Chest pain
Pale,
cool
Nausea
what are the signs of an heart attack?
Pain, pressure or tightness in the chest, shoulders, neck, arms, jaw or back
