Terminal illness
a disease or condition that is expected to result in death
Palliative care
medical care that focuses on relieving the symptoms and stress of a serious illness, rather than trying to cure it
Hospice
a program or facility that provides palliative care for people who are terminally ill
Cancer
a disease caused by the uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells in the body
Cardiac arrest ( Heart Attack)
a sudden loss of heart function, breathing, and consciousness
Respiratory failure
a failure of the respiratory system to provide adequate oxygen to the body’s tissues
Septicemia
a serious bacterial infection that has spread through the bloodstream
Organ failure
the inability of one or more of the body’s organs to function properly
Coma
a state of unconsciousness from which a person cannot be awakened
Congestive heart failure
a condition in which the heart is unable to pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs.
Malignant
describing a cancerous tumor that can invade nearby tissue and spread to other parts of the body
Metastasis
the spread of cancer from one part of the body to another
Infarction
the death of an area of tissue caused by an interruption of its blood supply
Aneurysm
a bulging or weakening in the wall of a blood vessel that can lead to rupture and death
Emphysema
a lung disease characterized by difficulty breathing and the destruction of lung tissue
