Difference between limb, breech, cephalic and transverse presentation during delivery
Limb - usually single limb (arm/leg) delivery.
Breech - buttocks present first
Cephalic - head presents first
Transverse - baby lying sideways, across placenta
Lung sounds - snoring respirations
Partial occlusion of the airway - usually with the tongue
Lung sounds - rhoncii
Coarse, low pitched. Mucus in the upper airway
Lung sounds - stridor
High pitched, upper airway obstruction. Either blockage due to foreign object or airway smooth muscle spasm
Lung sounds - columnar sounda
Adventitious breath sounds
What to do after baby delivers
Auction airway (mouth first)
When can you place a gloves hand inside the birth canal
During a prolapsed cord presentation.
Hypoglycemia
Low blood sugar - usually altered, slow, snoring respirations. Loss of consciousness. BGL 30-40
Hyperglycemia
High blood sugar - altered, fruity odor on breath. Vomiting, weakness, polydipsia.
Best indications for effective ventilations via BVM
Adequate, equal and bilateral chest rise and fall. Lung sounds
Contraindications for AED use
Wet pts, pt in body of water. Asystole or pea.
Signs and symptoms of narcotic od
Low respiratory drive, snoring respirations, pinpoint pupils
Bloody show
Beginning sign of labour in the pregnant female pt
Female with lower abdominal pain
Abruptio placenta
Hyperglycemia signs and symptoms
Warm dry skin,, vomiting, rapid/deep respirations (kussmal). Sweet fruity odor on breath. Weak thready pulse, slurred speech.
