What is a MEDIUM (MEDIA)?
A generic term for a grouping of matter through which an effect propagates, can contain sub-media
What is a PHANTOM?
A fabrication imitating specific properties of a target medium
What is MODALITY?
A particular way of doing (or experiencing) something
What are the 3 types of INVASIVNESS?
- Non-invasive: No breach of skill layer or penetration
- Minimally Invasive: No significant breach of skin or entry through orifice
- Invasive: Large breach of skin layer with entry into body
What is meant by CONTACT in a imaging system?
Whether physical contact is made with the subject
What are the 3 PLANES?
- Sagittal: Side on
- Coronal/Frontal: front on
- Transverse: Top-Bottom, axial
What is a DIAGNOSTIC procedure?
Imaging to locate a problem or tracing of symptoms to help understanding
What is an EVALUATION procedure?
Surgical guidance during a procedure for tracking and directing
What is a FUNCTIONAL procedure?
Observing a dynamic process such as blood flow or brain activity
What is an ANATOMICAL procedure
Observing a specific section of the body e.g., the Heart
What is meant by the APPROACH of a procedure?
The emission method used e.g., X-ray or Ultrasound
What are the 3 types of METHODOLOGY used in imaging systems?
- Microscopy - uses microscopes
- Endoscopy - uses endoscopes
- Tomography - captures 2D slices
