General Knowledge Flashcards
What is a SOURCE in an imaging system?
A system generating a useful emission with a known understood effect e.g. laser
What is a TARGET in an imaging system?
An object the system seeks to understand
What is a GUIDING COMPONENT in an imaging system?
One or more systems that channel emissions and affects how the imaging system acts
What is a DETECTOR in an imaging system?
A device/system capable of observing emissions after being altered by interaction with the target
What is signal processing?
The alteration of acquired data to deliver an understandable and useful output
What is Digital Imaging Network (DIN) or Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS)?
Compatible computer, storage device and long line transmission networks based around a common standard
What is DIgital COMmunications standard (DICOM)?
The international standard for medical images and related information. It defines the format for medical images that can be exchanged with the data and quality necessary for clinical use. Recognized as ISO 12052
What is RESOLUTION in an imaging context?
The smallest distance required between two objects for them to be distinguishable as separate objects. Expressed in metres
What is CONTRAST in an imaging context?
The ability of an imaging modality to distinguish between differences in image intensity
What is PENETRATION DEPTH in an imaging context?
The operating depth of the image
What is meant by the SENSITIVITY OF A SYSTEM?
How easy it is to get a diagnostic from the final image as a percentage
