Description
Sulkunen 2007 argues that although the notion of ‘addiction’ is increasingly used in everyday language, there is no universally accepted understanding of what it means. He believes that the media are a rich source of lay beliefs about substance use and misuse. In the 1990s, for example, use of recreational drugs inspired a number of drug related films, including the film Trainspotting. The success of films such as Trainspotting revealed that the world of the heroin addict, although dark and disturbing was nonetheless facinating for a mainstream audience
