Technical Codes
Directions for camera shots, angles, and movements. (Camera SAM)
Diegetic Sound
The sounds the characters can hear e.g. speaking, tire squeal
Non-Diegetic
The sounds the characters can not hear e.g. background music, narration
Eye level angle
The camera is the same height as the character.
Dutch Angle
The camera is tilted to make the scene feel awkward or uneasy.
Low angle
The camera is below the character. This makes the character seem powerful.
High Angle
The camera is above the character. This makes the character feel powerless.
Close up shot
Focuses on the character face or reaction.
Extreme close up shot
Focuses on part of characters face e.g. eyes
Can also be used to focus on an object.
Mid shot
Shows half of the characters body,
Long Shot
Used to show the characters whole body.
Single, Two, Three shot
Describe the number of characters in a shot
POV Shot
Taken from the point of view of a character.
Camera zoom (movement)
Moving the camera’s focus closer or away from the character.
Pan (movement)
Used to follow a character or object e.g. follow a car driving by
