What happens to the feotus during stage 1
head descends into the plevis
3 Ps

Passage
Power
Complications of stage one
a) Passenger
b) Passage
c) Power
a) Fetal malpresentation
b) fibroids / cervical stenosis
c) Uterine interia
Potential interventions to improve the progression in stage one (3)
prostaglandin gel
AROM
Oxytosin - help contractions
What happens in stage 2 of labour (briefly)
expulsion of the foetus
first movement the foetus makes in stage two
flexion of the head as it descends and engages
body and head in OT position
after flexion of the foetus what happens?
the head internally rotates to lie in the OA position
what happens after internal rotation?
the foetal head extends as it is delivered
what happens after the head extends?
the foetal head restitutes and returns to the OT position
what happens after restitution?
the anterior shoulder is delivered by posterior flexion of the body
