Mechanisms Flashcards
mechanism: membrane capacitance
the force of wave displaces membrane ( changing thickness and curvature) which creates current differences across the membrane, aka flexoelectricity
alternatively, expansion and oscillation of bubbles within lipid bilayer result in capacitive current changes
mechanism mechanosensitive
the force of the wave activates mechanosensitive ion channels in the cell membrane
evidence for potassium, sodium and calcium channel changes
mechanism: membrane openings
tiny pores are opened in the lipid bilayer (sonoporation) which allow excitatory ions inside the cell
mechanism: mechanical action potential
action potential propagation down the axon is partly mechanical and thus influenced by ultrasound wave
