Mecanisms Flashcards
What is linear motion?
Movement in one direction along a straight line (e.g drag race).
What is a Rotary Motion?
Objects moving in a circular motion around a fixed axis (e.g bicycle).
What is Oscillating Motion?
A repetitive back-and-forth motion along a circular path (e.g swing).
What is Reciprocating Motion?
A repetitive backwards and forwards in a linear motion (e.g Saw Drill).
What is a lever?
A simple mechanism that uses mechanical advantage to make a job easier.
What is a first class lever?
A lever has the load amd the effort on opposite sides of the pivot (e.g scizzors)
What is a second class lever?
A lever has the pivot point at the front with the load in thr middle between the effort (e.g wheel barrow).
What is a third class lever?
A lever has no mechanical advantage and is used where a small effort is required to move the load.
What is a parallel motion linkage?
Linkages all move together in the same direction.
What is a bell crank linkage?
Linkage that changes motion around an angle.
What is a reverse motion linkage?
Linkage that changes the direction of motion.
What is a crank and slider linkage?
Changes rotary motion into reciprocating motion.
What are the 4 types of motion?
Linear,Reciprocting, Rotary and Oscillating.
What are the 4 types of linkages?
Parallel Motion Linkage , Bell Crank Linkage, Reverse Motion Linkage and Crank and Slider Linkage.
