measuring the hct Flashcards

1
Q

measuring the hct

A

shake blood sample
transfer by capillary action blood to centrifuge tube to fill to 2cm from other end
seal end with wax
place in centriguge grooves - sealed end outwards
spin
blood separate into layer of cells at bottom and plasma at top
as tube is of uniform bore - length of red cell column compared to total length = Hct
