MEASURING MOTION Flashcards
what is the formula for speed?
speed = distance/time (v = d/t)
what is the formula for velocity?
velocity = displacement/time (v = d/t)
what is the formula for acceleration?
acceleration = change in velocity/time
(a = △v/t = v-u/t)
what is the equation of motion?
v = u + at
what are vectors?
a vector quantity has size (magnitude) and a direction
eg. displacement, velocity, weight and acceleration
what is displacement?
how far an object is from its original position
SI units: metres (m) + direction
what is speed?
the rate at which distance changes over time. how far an object has moved in a given time period
SI units: metres/seconds (m/s)
what is velocity?
the rate at which displacement changes over time. how far an object has moved in a given time relative to its original position, in a particular direction
SI units: metres/seconds (m/s) + direction
what is the formula for distance?
distance = speed x time (d = vt)
what does the gradient of a displacement time graph tell us?
the velocity (rise/run, y2 - y1/x2 - x1)
what does the triangle (△) in front of v (velocity) in an equation mean?
delta, change in
what the the equation for change in velocity?
△v = v-u
