Measuring IPD- Viktorins method Flashcards
How to measure IPD?
When measuring IPD close your RE and ask pt to look at your finger then and measure outer limbus from 10mm. Then close LE and tell them to look at finger and measure from the inner limbus.
Getting the measurement
Starting position with subject looking at my Left eye whilst I have my Right eye closed. Line up the 1 of the ruler (10mm) with the outer (temporal) limbus of the subject’s Right eye.
Now to measure, the subject looks at my Right eye whilst I have my left eye closed and I take the measurement on the ruler of the position of the inner (medial) limbus. (73mm)
(Note the position of the outer limbus of the Right eye, no longer at 10mm.)- example
The measurement is 73 – 10 = 63mm
Normal IPD measurement
The normal range is between 50-70.
Mono IPD
distance between each eye and bridge of nose
Mono OC
distance from centre line to optical centre
