Life expectancy
An indication of how long a person can expect to live.
Morbidity
ill health in a individual and the levels of ill health in a population or group. (disease/disability)
Mortality
Death rates in a population.
Mortality Rate
A measure of the proportion of a population who die in a one year period.
Burden of Disease
A measure of impact of disease and injury. Measured in DALYs.
Disability Adjusted Life Years
Years of life lost (YLL) \+ Years lost due to disability (YLD) = Daily Adjusted Life Years (DALYs)
Years of life lost (YLL)
A measure of the number of years of expected life lost due to premature death.
Years lost due to disability (YLD)
A measure of the number of healthy years lost due to illness, injury and disability.
Incidence
The number or rate of new cases of a particular condition during a specific time
Prevalence
The number or proportion of the cases of a particular disease or condition present in a population.
Trend
A generally consistent moment in the same direction over a period of time.
Health Status
An individual’s or population’s overall level of health, taking into account various aspects.
