measuring environmental change Flashcards
1
Q
Name three living indicators.
A
Mayfly nymphs, lichens and phytoplankton.
2
Q
name three non-living indicators.
A
Temperature(if high then co2), nitrate levels(if rivers get polluted) and carbon dioxide levels.(air)
3
Q
What are lichens sensitive to?
A
Sulfur dioxide. So they can tell how high pollution is in a given area. If there are lots of lichens in a river, this indicates that the river is very clean. (power stations and car engines)
4
Q
What are mayfly nymphs sensitive to?
A
water pollution. They are very sensitive to the oxygen levels in the water. Again if you find mayfly nymphs in a river then the water is clean.
