Q

What are the main causes of transient fatigue?

A

-Acidosis
-Substrate depletion
-Electrolyte disturbance
-Dehydration
Transient fatigue can be seen within a single session.
Athletes ability to momentarily produce power output

Q

What are the main causes of Acute fatigue?

A

-Micro trauma caused by eccentric muscle actions during running
-Blunt trauma during tackles and collisions
For example day 1 - training legs, 140KG 4x12
Day 2 it is unlikely that you would be able to achieve this again

Q

What are the main causes of chronic fatigue?

A
  • Inadequate recovery
  • Excessive training and playing volume/loads
  • External factors

Q

Why is it recommended to expose players to transient fatigue?

A

-Increase their ability to recover following intense activities = improved performance

Q

Why and how is Creatine Kinase a marker for fatigue?

A

If Creatine Kinase markers are found it means there has been structural damage to the cell therefore increasing the creatine kinsase concentration in the blood.
However if creatine kinase is being used as a marker for fatigue then we must consider the rate of disposal.

Q

Which exercise could we implement to test for upper body neuro-muscular function?

Q

Why might there be a set threshold for data collection in terms of fatigue?

A

We may set pre-determined thresholds so then any results outside of this threshold can be attributed to fatigue. Anything else is just biological noise.

Q

How can we test fatigue?

A

Questionnaire - muscle soreness, mood
Blood markers - Creatine Kinase
Neuromuscular performance - CMJ flight time, force, power
Performance tests - Running velocity.
