Pros of HDI
A
- Broad – still includes GDP/ CAPITA
- Focus on development outcomes
- Allows for progress to be measured over time
- Attention focus on those with low development

Cons of HDI
A
- Distribution of income? - could use the IHDI + lorenz curve/ gini coefficient
- Arbitrary weighting -> allocation of resources
- Freedom and choice not measured
- Other factors – crime, poverty – could use multi-dimensional poverty index, pollution, corruption.
