MEASURES OF CENTRAL TENDENCY Flashcards
Three common measures of
central tendency:
MODE, MEDIAN, MEAN
is a descriptive statistic that describes the average, or typical value of a set of scores
Measures of central tendencies
is the sum of the data
values divided by the number of
data items.
mean
is the middle value of an
odd number of data items arranged in
order. For an even number of data items, the median
is the average of the two middle values.
Median
is the value or values that occur most
often. When all the data values occur the same
number of times, there is no mode.
mode
of a set of data is the difference
between the greatest and least values. It is used
to show the spread of the data in a data set.
range
is the score that occurs
most frequently in a
set of data
mode
When a distribution
has two “modes,” it
is called _______
bimodal
If a distribution has more than 2
“modes,” it is called
multimodal
