Measurements + Kinematics definitions Flashcards
Systematic errors
Errors that result in all readings or measurements being either always above or below the true value by a fixed amount
Random errors
Results in all readings or measurements being scattered about a mean value. These errors have equal probability of being positive or negative
Accuracy
The degree of closeness of the mean value of the measurements to the true value. It is affected by systematic error
Precision
The degree of agreement between repeated measurements of the same quantity. It is affected by random error
Distance
The total length of path an object travels
Displacement
The distance moved in a specific direction from a reference point
Speed
The rate of change of distance travelled
Velocity
The rate of change of displacement
Acceleration
The rate of change of velo
Physical quantity
A quantity containing a numerical magnitude and a unit
Base quantities
Physical quantities that are the most fundamental and are independent of each other
Derived quantities
Any quantity that can be expressed in terms of one or more base quantities using the defining equation of the quantity
