Measurement of Length Flashcards
Least Count
The least count of an instruments is the smallest measurement that can be taken accurately with it.
Vernier Constant
It is equal to the least count of the vernier which is value of 1 Main scale division - Value of one vernier scale division.
Vernier Callipers
Vernier Callipers are instruments used to measure length correct up to 0.1 mm
Zero Error ( Vernier Calliper)
Zero error is the length between the zero mark of the vernier callipers and the zero mark on the main scale.
Positive Zero Error (Vernier)
It is a zero error in which the mark of the vernier is right to the zero mark of the main scale
Positive Zero Error (Vernier)
It is a zero error in which the mark of the vernier is right to the zero mark of the main scale.
Negative Zero Error
A negative zero error is a zero error in which the zero mark of the vernier scale is to the left of the main scale.
Pitch of a screw
It is the linear distance moved by a screw along its axis in one complete rotation of its circular scale.
It is also the distance between two consecutive threads of a screw.
The least count of a screw
The least count of a screw is the distance moved along its axis by it in rotating the circular scale by one division.
Zero error in a Screw Gauge
When the studs are in contact and the zero mark of the circular scale is below/above the baseline of the main scale, there is a zero error.
Negative Zero error (Screw gauge)
When the studs are in contact and the zero mark of the circular scale above the base line of main scale
Positive Zero error (Screw gauge)
When the studs are in contact and the zero mark of the circular scale below the base line of main scale
