Measur And Modeling Population Change Flashcards
Open population
Population in which change in number and density is determined by births, deaths, immigration and emigration
Biotic potential
The maximum rate a population can increase under ideal conditions. Also called intrinsic rate of increase or pop change
Geometric growth
Pattern of pop group where organisms reproduce at fixed intervals at a constant rate
Exponential growth
Pattern of population growth where organism reproduce continuously at a constant rate
Logistic growth
Geometric and exponential growth rates are unrealistic at over long periods of time, as resources are depleted
Closed population
Population in which change in size and density is determined by birth rate and death rate
