How is a meander formed

A

As water flows faster on the outer bend so the outer bank gets eroded but material is deposited at the inner bank over time as the outer bank wears away and the inner one grows in a meander forms and as the process continues the meander grows more ‘loopy’

How is an oxbow lake formed

A

An oxbow lake is formed whenever a meander grows on the outside then the river floods and cuts through the middle forming a new path which leads out not needing the other meander its cuts off from the main river creating an oxbow lake
