Erosion Transport And Depostion Flashcards
What is the first stage of erosion
Sand and stones scrape the bed and banks causing more to fall off this is called abrasion
What is the second stage of erosion
Rock and stones knock each other causing them to wear each other away, this is called attrition
What is the third stage of erosion
In a fast flowing river, water gets forced into cracks in the bank causing it to break overtime
This is called hydraulic action
What is the fourth stage of erosion
Water also dissolves soluble minerals from the bed and banks, this helps break them up
This is called solution
What is the first stage of transportation
Dissolved material is carried along as solution which is invisible to the naked eye
What is the second stage of transportation
Small light particles of rock and soil are carried along as suspension . They makes the water look cloudy or dirty
What is the third stage of transportation
Heavy material like rocks are collected at the bottom of the river and rolled along this is called bedload while sand and other soluble stuff flows through the water
