Q

How are meanders formed

A
  1. Erosion occurs at the outer bends of the river
forming river cliffs due to the fast flow of
water because the river channel is deeper
  2. Deposition occurs at the inner bank forming a
slip off slope due to the current being slower
    because it is shallower.

Q

How do oxbow lakes form

A
  1. Further hydraulic action and abrasion causes
the outer banks to get closer to each other
forming a small part of land between them
  2. The river breaks through the land, usually
    during a flood.
  3. river takes the shortest/ fastest route
  4. Deposition cuts off the meander forming an
    ox-bow lake
