What is a meander
A
A meander is when a river develops an increasingly long bend.
2
Q
Step 1 of forming a meander
A
In the river, water on the outside of the curve moves faster than water on the inside of a curve.
3

Step 2 of forming a meander
A
The fast flowing current erodes the outside bank, making the curve bigger.
4
Q
Step 3 of forming a meander
A
On the inside bank a sediment is deposited.
5
Q
Step 4 of forming a meander
A
This creates a sharper meander with a sharper curve, due to sediments building upon the inside bend and water continuing to erode away the outside
