What are the Millennium Development Goals?
a set of goals set in 2000 that commit the United Nations to a new global partnership that reduces extreme poverty and setting out a series of time-bound targets with a deadline of 2015
Why are the Millennium Development goals so important?
-explicit statement of goals for development efforts
-all relate to health, whether directly or indirectly
-important to understanding global health issues
-the most broadly supported, comprehensive and specific development goals the world has ever agreed upon
What are the key difference between the SDGs and MGDs?
-there are more SDGs with more targets/indicators
-only 14% of the new SDG targets have an explicit health focus compared to 35% of the MGDs
