84. Explain how muscles work as a pair to bend and straighten the arm at the elbow is causing movement at the joint. Make sure you discuss the type of joint movement.
Flexion of a joint is a decrease in the joint angle from the body in anatomical position. When the elbow is bent the forearm. Most flexion takes place in the four directions. Exception to this is the leg where flexionof the leg results in bending of the knee. Extension of the joint is when the joint is of the leg results in bending of the knee. Extension of the joint is when the joint is returned to anatomical position for increased the angle of the joint, which means the extensor is contracted. And example of this is when the triceps branchii (extensor) contracts to straighten the arm. The biceps branchii muscle (flexor) in the upper arm contracts to bend the elbow. Muscle work in pairs so that at the same time, the biceps branchii muscle (flexor) contracts to bend the joint and triceps brachii returns to its original length. Discreetly or marks in the joint, the triceps branchii (extensors) contracts while the biceps branchii returns to its original length.
