Facts of case

A

A national bank was first established in 1791. The constitution didn’t expressly grant the power to congress to charter banks. Individuals feared that the interpretation of the constitution would create an all-powerful national gov that would threaten the sovereignty of Maryland. They attempted to close the Baltimore Branon of the national bank by passing a law which forced all charter banks outside of the state to pay a yearly tax

A

The court decided to agree in favor of McCulloch & the federal government. The court ruled that Maryland couldn’t tax the national banks. States aren’t allowed to interfere with congress passing laws. Maryland can’t do anything involving national banks
