Micro, meso and macro theories
The jurisprudential thinking of Beccaria was falling out of favour in the 20th century because of new theories now focusing on the micro, meso and macro level
Economic rationality
Institutions created by men (rational) are rational too. The work in rational ways in specific contexts. They seek to maximize their utility (cost/benefit principle) and decrease their disutility
Base-utility principle
Cost/ benefit analysis. Underpinned social scientific theory of the 20th century
Process of reasoning (criminal)
There are inter-relational factors that contribute to a criminal’s reasoning in committing a crime. Context, personal history and decision making. Idea developed by Cornish and Clarke
Distinction between Criminal involvement and Criminal event
Criminal involvement: Factors that comprise the choices for the individual to involve in crime
Criminal event: Particulars of a specific crime
