Q

Satellite connections usually have a high latency.

High latency means:

A the fast speed that signals travel at to reach their
destination.

B the large delay in time it takes for signals to arrive at their
destination.

C the slow speed that signals travel at to reach their
destination.

D there is no delay in the time it takes for signals to arrive at
their destination.

Explain two reasons why the software may have frozen.
1 :
2 :
[4]

A

1 - The computer’s software updates (1) may be incompatible with the computer. (1)

11
Q

What are the advantages of database

A
  • It has separate tables for different info
  • There’s less data redundancy (dismissed/excess) which means there’s less chances of errors happening
  • It is easier to navigate the database compared to spreadsheet

Q

Disadvantages - database

A
  • it can have significant/lots of hardware + software costs with it
  • It can be complex to use, so it requires training for devs/users/employees
  • it can be time consuming to design

Q

8 Lars Model Railways use a database to store records of stock in the shops.
Identify and describe two benefits of using a database to keep records of the stock.
1 -
2 .
[4]

A

1 - It has separate tables that have different products in them.
2 - It has less data REDUNDANCY, which reduces the chances of errors happening

17
Q

Lars Model Railways have employed an IT consultant to help them grow their business.
Describe two ways the IT consultant can demonstrate that they are ready for work at the first
meeting. (4)

A

1 - They need to DRESS APPROPRIATELY (1) as it is their first meeting. (1)
2 - They need to show a can do attitude (1) by behaving positively (1)

18
Q

What is the difference between a leased line and an ADSL line ( 3.4 - Connectivity Methods)

A

Leased line is a closed and private, the connection is not affected by others. It uses fibre optic cables.
ADSL line is shared connection that uses copper wires to transfer data.

19
Q

What is leased line

A

Leased line is a closed and private, the connection is not affected by others. It uses fibre optic cables.

20
Q

Advantages of using Leased Line

A
  • faster upload speeds
  • closed/private connection not affected by others
  • high security, as it is uncontended. it will have same speed all of the time.

-you know how much capacity there is available.

-the connections don’t vary at peak times, it is constant and fast.

21
Q

Disadvantages of Leased Line.

A
  • it has higher costs for the installation
  • have to pay monthly, which has high costs.
  • the configuration is complex
  • it isn’t available straight away - it takes time to install it.
22
Q

The IT consultant has suggested that Lars Model Railways increase their online presence
by launching an online store.
A leased line could be used to connect the shops to the Internet.

Discuss the benefits and drawbacks to Lars Model Railways of using a leased line
connection.

A

By Lars Model Railways using a leased line, it will make their connection speeds not change suddenly at times when their store is the busiest. This then means that that they are then able to have faster upload speeds, this is beneficial as it then ensures maintenance when using the online store which then makes them be consistent with providing the customers their services quickly. Another benefit is that, it is a closed/private connection which means it is not affected by others, making it have high security and less chances of problems such as data theft occurring so that its business can run smoothly.

However, drawbacks of Lars Model Railways using a leased line connection is that it is expensive, as it will require monthly high cost charges. When installing the leased line, it will not be available straight away for them to use immediately, this can then delay their business operations such as customer orders.

24
Q

What layer is the UDP protocol in

25
Q

What layer is the ICMP protocol in?

A

Network layer

26
Q

What layer is the SNMP layer in?

A

Application layer

27
Q

What is the application server’s purpose

A

it installs, operates, and hosts applications + associated servers for end users - it servers and organisations.

basically it allows users to access shared applications on a network.

28
Q

Advantages of Application server

A
  • it makes it efficient to install software in one location instead of on each machine so it speeds up the process.
  • it installs security updates so this then means separate devices don’t have to update making them easy to use.
29
Q

Disadvantages of Application server

A
  • it is expensive to install and maintain it.
  • it increases the network bandwidth as people run the application over the network.
30
Q

Customers will need to register to use the online store. The customer details will be held
by Lars Model Railways.

Explain one action that needs to be taken by Lars Model Railways to conform to the
legislation that applies to the holding of customer data. (3)

A

They need to store the data securely (1) under the Data Protection Act (1), by using security methods such as Firewall/anti-virus biometrics. (1)

31
Q

The introduction of the online store will allow Lars Model Railways to use different
communication methods to connect with their customers.

Explain how blogs and email could be used to connect with their customers (6)

A

Blogs:
They could use this to this provide details of upcoming events (1) so that it promotes their business (1) to increase their customer base (1)

Email:
The company should use this so that can they send TARGETED emails (1) to customers that are on a MAILING LIST (1) of any discounts/new products. (1)
