dry site

topical anaesthesia gel on cotton wool, 3-5 mins

retract tissue, taught

insert needle, bevel facing bone, syringe at 45 degrees to bone

insert till touch bone, withdraw 1mm

aspirate

1ml solution per minute

technique to reduce the risk of IV injection by creating negative pressure at the tip fo the needle so you pull up a sample of the injection site -> if blood then likely its in a vessel
