Maxillary Flashcards

1
Q

central incisor SCFRMDV

A

Shape: wedge-shape, trapezium

cusps:

Root: one, triangular cross-section, cervical margin is more sinuous on mesial

Mesial: sharper edge.

Distal: rounded

Variation: shovel-shaped in am indians, eskimo, chin/jap

Q

lateral incisor SCFRMDV

A

Shape: narrow, shorter trapezium, wedge-shape. there is a slope from shorter distal to longer mesial.

cusps:

Root: one, distally curving, cervical margin is more sinuous on mesial side. round in cross - section.

Mesial: sharper, acute

Distal: rounded

variation: peg-shaped, formen caecum incisive varies a lot

Q

canine SCFRMDV

A

S: large IRREGULAR pentagon. on incisal edge, the DISTAL slope is longer than mesial

c: one large pointed cusp placed centrally in line with long axis of tooth

R: one, VERY LONG, cervical line more sinuous on mesial

nb. has a bulky palatal cingulum

Q

2nd pre-molar SCFRMDV

A

s: less angular rounded oval outline.
c: 2 cusps: buccal, lingual EQUAL IN SIZE. both are shorter than U4.
f: mesio-distal developmental fissure
r: ONE. bigger than both of the roots of U4
m: NO canine fossa

Q

1st molar SCFRMDV

A

s: rhomboid outline

c: 4 cusps AND in 50-70% cusp of carabelli 5th cusp
order of biggest to smallest cusps:
mesio-lingual.
mesio-buccal
disto-buccal
disto-lingual
lingual surface of mesial lingual= cusp of carabelli
–> mesio lingual cusp biggest, mesio-buccal cusp highest

f: H-shape pattern
r: 3 roots. 2 buccal= distally curved, coalescence possible. 1 lingual=divergent prone

8
Q

2nd molar compared to 1st molar

A

s: rhomboid outline. narrower smaller crown.

c: 4 cusps. similar to U6.
BUT DISTO-LINGUAL/PALATAL cusp smaller OR may be ABSENT to give a TRIANGULAR occlusal outline with a cusp in each corner

r: 3 roots. 2 buccal of same length and closer together. 1 lingual
higher risk of fusion of roots in U7 than in U6

never will have cusp of carabelli

Q

3rd molar

A

highly variable tooth

s: triangular/ heart shape.

c: 3 cusps: mesio-lingual, mesio-buccal, disto-palatal
disto-palatal is often absent.

r: 3 roots. all short, underdeveloped, often fused. crown often appears too BIG for its roots.
m: contact on mesial surface only
