Mandibular Flashcards
central incisor
s: symmetrical trapezoid. distal rounder than mesial incisal edge. small cingulum. tooth leans lingually
r: one thin root. from mesial distal, it has a blunt apex
if look on buccal surface, the incisive edge IS at right angles to bissecting line of root
lateral incisor
s: narrower trapezoid. the crown is slightly askew on the root to follow dental arch.
r: one root
canine
s: long pentagon. mesial slope is shorter than distal.
r: one
1st pre-molar
s: diamond outline
c: 2 cusps. buccal is bigger and pointed than lingual. compared to uppers, in the lowers, the buccal tilts lingually.
r: one, curves distally.
2nd pre-molar
can have 2 cusps or 3. if 2= ROUNDED outline. if 3= SQUARE outline.
—>the 3 cusp is most common and is a result of division of lingual cusp.
s: viewed buccaly, the mesial slope is shorter than distal. like with mandibular 1st pre-molar the buccal cusp tilts lingually, but the lingual cusp appears as a direct extension of the root
c: buccal cusp, mesio-lingual, disto-lingual.
r: one.
1st molar
s: pentagon outline.
c: 5 cusps: 3 cusps on buccal, 2 on lingual.
mesio-lingual
disto-lingual
mesio-buccal
disto-buccal
distal to the disto-buccal cusp is 5th cusp
f: y-shape fissure pattern
r: 2 roots- distal and mesial root. same height.
2nd molar
s: oblong outline.
c: 4 cusps- one in each corner= hot-cross bun shape. 2 lingual, 2 buccal. 2 lingual are higher than buccal.
f: cruciform pattern/ hot-cross bun
r: 2 roots- distal and mesial.
3rd molar
s: oblong outline.
c: 4 cusps
r: 2 roots, mesial and distal, short.
