Maturity Method Flashcards
1
Q
Why do we want to know the strength of concrete?
A
- Know when to strip the forms
- Know when to post tension.
- Know when to remove shores
- Know when to terminate cold-weather protection
2
Q
Other tests (than maturity test) to determine concrete strength?
A
field cured cylinders
pullout test
penetration testing
3
Q
What is the concrete strength maturity relationship?
A
- Strength increases as cement hydrates. Cement hydration depends on how long the concrete has cured and at what temperature.
- Maturity is measured of how far hydration has progressed.
4
Q
How does the maturity method predict concrete strength.
A
Predicts concrete strength based on temperature history of concrete.
5
Q
What is the maturity temperature-time factor M(t) equation?
A
M(t) = E(Ta - T0) delta t
Ta= average concrete temperature during each time interval
T0= temperature below which cement hydration is assumed to cease.
delta t = time intervals, days or hours
E= summation of all the intervals of time multiplied by temperature.
