Philosopher,
believes that humans only act morally because they fear the consequences set by society
A good life is one where people chase their desires
Ring Of Gyges
Story where a shepherd found a ring that turned him invisible, and he abused this and acted immorally to chase his desires
Glaucon uses this to explain that people would act immorally if given the opportunity
Morality of Happiness
A good fulfilling life comes from living morally (PLATO)
Those who live morally do so because they want to feel fulfilled
They view rules as a guide to help them continue being moral
Morality of Obligation
Conforming to laws that don’t necessarily have to do with happiness
laws that are conformed to out of obligation
