Matter around us 2 big Flashcards
Name the factors that affect evaporation and give examples or describe the various factors.
1] An increase in surface area.
Eg:- we spread clothes for them to dry faster.
2] With An increase in temperature, the particles gain more kinetic energy and change their phase from liquid to gaseous.
Eg:- on sunny days water will dry faster
3] A decrease in humidity. The air-only holds a definite amount of water vapour at a temperature. If the amount of water in the air is high, the evaporation decreases
4] With An increase in wind speed, with the increase in wind speed the particles of water vapour move away with the wind, decreasing the water vapour
Eg:- on windy days water will dry faster
Pressure and temperature determine the state of a substance. Explain this in detail.
1] When solid, liquid, or gas experiences an increase in the temperature then they change their state.
Eg:- heat some ice cubes slowly the temperature increases and the ice turns to liquid. Heat it more and it will become steam.
2] On lowering the temperature of any matter, they change in their state.
Eg:- Take the steam of boiling water and allow it to cool down, it condenses to form water, and on further cooling this water turn to ice.
3] On applying pressure and reducing temperature we can liquefy gases or change them into solid.
Eg:- if we reduce temperature and apply a lot of pressure on carbon dioxide it turns to solid carbon dioxide, called dry ice, which is used for cooling.
