Matrix Questions Flashcards
Why is terminal velocity reached by a falling object?
Because the drag force is equal to the gravitational pull on the object, meaning that it reaches terminal velocity.
What forces increase as velocity increases?
Air resistance, Drag, Friction, etc
How are force and mass related to acceleration?
They both equalise each other
Describe a method to measure the density of an irregular object
You could measure the mass and volume of the object, and then divide its mass by its volume.
What are the equations to calculate pressure and density?
Pressure = Force / Area
Density = Mass / Volume
State the difference between energy and temperature
Energy is measured in Joules and Temperature is measured in Celsius or Fahrenheit. Temperature is the movement of molecules and energy is what is stored.
Describe the reactivity of the elements found in groups 1 & 7.
Group 1 elements are very reactive because they only have 1 electron. When they come in contact with water, they produce hydrogen gas, fizz, and move quickly. Group 7 elements are also very reactive because they only have 1 electron as well. In both groups, as they go down, they get more reactive.
State ways in which pressure can be affected.
Changing the force, changing the area, or changing the temperature.
What is work done?
Work done is when energy is transferred from one store to another. Work done is also done when a force causes an object to move.
Explain why the elements in group 0/8 are unreactive.
Because they both have a full electron shell.
List 3 properties of metals and non-metals.
Metals : Shiny, Good conductors, Malleable
Non-Metals: Dull, Poor conductors, Not ductile.
Explain how to reduce energy loss
Use insulation, Use energy efficient things, Use LED lights, Use renewable energy sources
What are the 3 methods of heat transfer
Conduction, Convection, Radiation.
State the energy found in moving particles.
Kinetic energy
What is the equation to calculate the speed of an object?
Speed = Distance / Time
