math vocab topic 6 Flashcards
square
a plane figure with four equal straight sides and four right angles.
base
the two angles formed at the base of an isosceles triangle, which are always congruent to each other
convex
any line segment that joins two points on or in a shape will lie entirely on or inside of the shape
diagonal
a straight line segment that connects two non-adjacent vertices (corners) of a polygon or a polyhedron
equilateral
all sides of a shape (like a triangle or a polygon) are of equal length
isosceles
a triangle that has at least two sides of equal length
kite
a quadrilateral (a four-sided shape) with two pairs of adjacent sides that are equal in length
leg
either of the two sides that form the right angle, with the side opposite the right angle being the hypotenuse
midsegment
a line segment connecting the midpoints of two sides of the triangle, and it’s parallel to the third side and half its length
parallelogram
a simple (non-self-intersecting) quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides, where opposite sides are equal in length and opposite angles are equal in measure
perpendicular bisector
a line, line segment, or ray that intersects another line segment at its midpoint and forms a right angle (90 degrees) with it
rectangle
a flat, four-sided shape with four right angles (90 degrees), where opposite sides are equal in length and parallel to each other
regular
all its sides are the same length and all its angles are the same measure
rhombus
a four-sided shape (quadrilateral) where all four sides are equal in length, and opposite sides are parallel, often resembling a diamond
trapezoid
a four-sided shape (quadrilateral) with at least one pair of parallel sides
