Math vocab 1 Flashcards
Reflexive property
something is equal or congruent to itself
vertex angle
the angle formed by two lines or rays that meet at a common endpoint
equilateral
having all its sides of the same length.
Base angles
the two angles in an isosceles triangle that are formed at the base of the triangle
Bisector
A line that intersects a line at a given point
perpendicular bisector
a line that intersects a given line segment at a 90-degree angle (perpendicularly) and also passes through the midpoint of that line segment, effectively dividing it into two equal parts
Congruence transformation
a transformation that moves a shape without changing its size or shape
congruent
identical in shape and size
Rigid transformation
a transformation in the plane that preserves distance (length) between every pair of points
SAS
This states that if two sides and the included angle of one triangle are congruent to two sides and the included angle of another triangle, then the triangles are congruent
Equiangular
a triangle in which angles are congruent and all sides are of equal length
CPCTC
meaning that if two triangles are congruent, then all corresponding sides and angles of those triangles are also congruent to each other.
Hypotnuse leg
the combination of the hypotenuse and one of the other two sides of that right triangle
included angle
the angle formed between two adjacent sides of a polygon
isosceles
a triangle with at least two sides that are equal in length
SSS
if all three sides of one triangle are congruent to the corresponding three sides of another triangle, then the two triangles are congruent.
ASA
if two triangles have two corresponding angles and the included side congruent to the corresponding angles and included side of another triangle, then the two triangles are congruent.
AAS
if two angles and a non-included side of one triangle are congruent to the corresponding two angles and non-included side of another triangle, then the two triangles are congruent
