math vocab Flashcards
Point
a dot at the end of a line
Line
a line with two arrows
Ray
a line with a dot on one side and arrow on the other
Midpoint
exactly in the middle of a line
Bisector
a line that divides another line into two equal parts
Parallel lines
two lines that will never intersect
Perpendicular lines
two lines intersecting creating a 90 degree angle/ right angle
Supplementary angles
two angles that add up to 180 degrees
Complementary angles
two angles that add up to 90 degrees
Vertical angles
angles that are across from each other when two lines intersect
Adjacent angles
two angles that are right next to eachother
Linear pairs
two angles next to each other from two intersecting lines that add up to 180 degrees
Right angle
a angle measuring exactly 90 degrees
Alternate interior angles
when two parallel lines crossed by a transversal the angles in the inner side of the parallel line but opposite sides of the transversal
Consecutive interior angles
when two parallel lines crossed by a transversal the angles in the inner side of the parallel line and on the same side of the transversal
Consecutive exterior angles
when two parallel lines crossed by a transversal the angles on the outer side of the parallel lines but also on the same side of the transversal
Alternate exterior angles
when two parallel lines crossed by a transversal the angles on the outer side of the parallel line but also on the opposite sides of the transversal
Line segment
line with two dots on eachside
Isosceles triangle
when two sides of the triangle are the same
Equilateral triangle
when all the sides of the triangle are the same
Scalene triangle
when three sides of the triangle are different
Right triangle and formula
when a triangle consists of one angle that is 90 degrees (c squared = a squared + b squared)
Acute triangle and formula
when all of the angles in a triangle are less then 90 degrees (c squared < a squared + b squared)
Obtuse triangle and formula
when a triangle consists of one angle that is greater than 90 degrees (c squared > a squared + b squared)
