A
(a) when the problem asks for an approximate answer or (b) when answers are far apart or (c) when there are divided answers - i.e. half of them are negative and half are positive

the half, the quarters (1/4, 3/4), and the thirds (1/3, 2/3)

(1/2) * (1/4). Rounded the first one down, and second one up. Try to make them cancel out
