Geometry Flashcards
If one of the sides of an inscribed triangle is the diameter of the circle, what is FAX about the triangle?
It’s a right triangle (no printer xP)
Pythagorean theorem
For a right triangle, a^2 + b^2 = c^2
What is the sum of the interior angles of a polygon?
(n-2)*180. Aka anything with four sides will always be 180. This is because the sum of the angles of a triangle is 180, and when you cut up a polygon into triangles you get n -2, where n is the number of sides
Area of a trapezoid
(big base + small base) ( height) / 2
Area of a parallelogram
bh
What are the two special right triangles and why are they special?
-30:60:90: this is an equilateral triangle split into two (lengths are x, x sqrt (3), 2x)
-45:45:90 (isoceles right triangle, exactly half of a square. Memorize that x, x, x sqrt (2) )
You only need the length of one side to determine the length of the other two sides
Rules for “possible” triangles
The sum of any two sides MUST be greater than the third side
The exterior angle of a triangle is equal to teh sum of the opposite two interior angles
‘C = a + b
If a right triangle is inscribed in a circle…
its hypotenuse is the diamter
