Math Flashcards
If the line in the graph is going to the left will the slope be positive or negative?
Negative.
If the line in the graph is going to the right will the slope be positive or negative?
Positive.
When solving the problem:
2(3x-10)/11=8 (11 is under 2(3x-10) and the =8 is beside them both.)
Do you solve the brackets first or take 11 out of the equation first.
Take 11 out of the equation first.
Is x the independant or dependants variable?
Independant.
Is y the dependant or independant variable?
Dependant.
Does a partial graph go throught the origin (0,0)?
No, it does not.
What is the rule for a partial graph?
y=ax+b
What does ‘b’ mean in a graph?
Inital value.
What does ‘a’ mean in a graph?
Slope.
Does a direct graph go through the origin (0,0)?
Yes, it does.
What is the rule for a direct graph?
y=ax (because the inital value is 0)
Does a zero graph go through the origin (0,0)?
No.
What is the formula for a zero graph?
y=b
What is another letter used in the place of x?
n.
What is another letter used in the place of y?
c.
What does it mean for a graph to be constant?
The inclination doesn’t change.
What does it mean for a graph to be not constant?
The inlination changes.
What is an undefined graph?
When the line is vertical.
Is it rise over run or run over rise?
Rise over run.
What is the y intercept?
When the line crosses the y axis.
What is the x intercept?
When the line crosses the x axis.
What formula is used to calculate the slope?
x2-x1
When told to graph a line how do you?
Use rise over run. If the formula is
y=1/4x-1
1/4 is your slope.
-1 is your initial value
You will rise 1 point on the graph and run 4.
If your slope is a full number like 6. Add 1 as the denominator. Like this 6/1.
If points on a graph were (-3,5) (-3,-7) (-3,4) (-3,0). What would the rule be?
The rule would be -3 because every single coordinate has the number -3 in the x spot. So x=-3
