A

due to the increased pressure in the pulmonary arteries this forces blood into the aorta through a channel which connects the pulmonary arteries to the aorta.

after the foetus is born, what happens to these shunts?

A

Ductus venous and arterioles become ligamentous
Umbillical veins vasoconstrict and become ligamentous
Pressure in the left atria become higher than the right so this closes the foramen oval creating a fossa ovals
