Materno-foetal circulation Flashcards
1
Q
What are the four main matron-foetal circulation shunts?
A
The placenta
The ductus venous
Formane ovale
Ductus arteriosus
2
Q
what vein supplies the placenta?
A
umbillical veins
3
Q
what is the ductus venous?
A
channel which bypasses the liver
4
Q
what is the ductus venous?
A
due to the increased pressure in the pulmonary arteries this forces blood into the aorta through a channel which connects the pulmonary arteries to the aorta.
5
Q
after the foetus is born, what happens to these shunts?
A
Ductus venous and arterioles become ligamentous
Umbillical veins vasoconstrict and become ligamentous
Pressure in the left atria become higher than the right so this closes the foramen oval creating a fossa ovals
