What is the definition of maternal mortality?
The death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy and its management
What is the definition of maternal morbidity?
Refers to severe health complications occurring in pregnancy and delivery that do not result in death
What is the difference between direct and indirect causes of maternal death?
Direct- related to obstetric problems during pregnancy, labour or puerperium or resulting from any treatment involved
Indirect- associated with a disorder, the effects of which are exacerbated by pregnancy
When would a maternal death be referred to as a late death?
From 42 days to a year post-natally

Stillbirth + neonatal death

Death of an infant within the first year of life
