Threatening to restrain, restraining a person, preventing them from leaving the facility
HAI
Healthcare associated infection: infection that developed in a healthcare facility/setting
Incident
Any event that has harmed or could harm a patient, resident, visitor, or staff. Report at once and look for patterns
MI
Myocardial infarction (heart attack)

Written guide about person’s nursing care, nursing diagnosis, goals, and nursing measures carried out
Ombudsman
Someone who supports and promotes the needs and interests in a long term facility. Investigated complaints and is not employed by the facility
Orthostatic hypertension
When a person stands up too fast and BP suddenly drops
Restraints
For safety of patient and those around, last resort, least restrictive, and other measures have failed
TIA
Transient ischemic attack (mini stroke): blood supply to the brain is interrupted for short time
Vulnerable adult
18+ with a disability or condition causing them to be at risk for harm
