Masterclass - Stroke: Bed Mobility, Sitting, STS, Standing Flashcards

1
Q

Outline some equipment that can assist with bed mobility

A
  • Harder / stiffer bed - more reaction force from any contraction (less give in the bed)
  • Rails on bed
  • Hook for side of bed (T shape)
  • Motorized bed which can lift upper half (not recommended early on because we do not want them reliant on this)

Q

Discuss the evidence for bed mobility and sitting training.

A

“There is strong evidence for PT interventions favouring intensive high repetitive task-oriented and task-specific training in all phases post stroke. Effects are mostly restricted to the actually trained functions and activities.”

Q

Discuss the evidence for STS training and standing (balance) training

A

“This review has found moderate quality evidence that interventions to improve sit-to-stand may have a beneficial effect on time taken to sit-to-stand and lateral symmetry during sit-to-stand, in the population of people with stroke who were already able to sit-to-stand independently.”
