massage Flashcards
therapeutic benefits of masasge
decrease muscle tone, increase pliability, increase venous return, increased lymphatic flow
when can you massage an incision post op
2 weeks. not acutely
effleurage
long pressure with the fibers
petrissage
stereotypical massage- rolling and kneading
tapotement
tap- percussion
what do we do around joints and tendon, or on trigger points and adhesions
friction perpendicular to fibers
what can be used for PS NS stimulation
tapotement
improves blood flow and breaks up adhesions
petrissage
what is a MTP
hyperirritable spot in a taut band of skeletal fibers. press here 2-3 times, 30, 60, 90 pressure rule
how is vibration different from tapetoment
vibration is trembling while tapetoment is trembling
general approach
warm up- rice sock
effleurage
then petrissage
then deeper
10-15 min
end with effleurage
benefits of passive range of motion
decrease adhesions, decrease edema, joint health
indications for PROM
post sx, plegic, OA
general PROM approach
warm up, isolate each joint, 10-20 reps 3x a day finish with light massage
PROM bicycling vs gait patterning
bicycling is laying down all joints at the same time
gait- bicycling but standing
