Mass Flashcards
What is mass?
Mass is the amount of matter in a body or object.
Do all objects have mass?
Yes.
Does our body have mass?
Yes.
How is mass measured?
In grams (g) or kilograms (kg)
Convert 1 kg to grams
1 kg = 1000 g
What do heavier objects have as compared with lighter objects?
Larger masses
Is mass the same as weight? Is weight the same as mass?
No.
How can we compare the masses of two objects?
By using a balance.
What will the object with the bigger mass do to the balance?
Tilt the balance downwards.
What can a lever balance be used for?
To:
- measure the mass of an object;
- compare the masses of two or more objects.
What can an electronic balance be used for?
To measure the mass of an object. If the object is placed in a container, we should:
- find the mass of the empty container
- find the mass of the container and object
- calculate the mass of the object using the following equation:
Mass of container and object - mass of container = mass of object
Is the weight of an object also its mass?
Is the mass of an object dependent on the pull of gravity?
No
Is the weight of an object dependent on the pull of gravity?
