What is Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs?
According to Maslow, human thought and behaviours are driven by five ascending levels of
need, in which lower needs must be satisfied reasonably well before the higher needs
What is need number one? (the most basic)
Physiological needs
What is need number two?
Safety needs
What is need number three?
Belonging and love needs
What is need number four?
Esteem needs
What is need number five? (the highest stage of needs)
Self-actualisation needs
Describe: Physiological needs
The fundamental biological needs required for survival, including food, drink, oxygen, sleep, shelter and sex.
Describe: Safety needs
The need for a secure and stable environment.
Describe: Belonging and love needs
The need for close relationships and being part of groups such as community, family, and peers.
Describe: Esteem needs
The need for self-respect through a sense of competence and individual achievement, and the need for respect from others via appreciation, status or fame.
Describe: Self-actualisation needs
The need to fully achieve one’s talents, capabilities and potential.
